The DC to Paree (Paris) Series is a collection of  quirky recipes from a DC  girl (me) and her food adventures in France. DC to Paree (Paris) opens the window into a whimsical, herb-filled French kitchen. With a table full of wine, delicate fish and lentil entrees along side tender lamb and crêpe appetizers, this recipe album is inspired by the diverse café culture and open-air food markets of Paris. 

You’re no baker but you appreciate OUTSTANDING bread when you bite it. To make it at home become friends with The Fool-Proof Flatbread. The dough is a 5-minute, stove-top wonder, made from 5 elements – salt, sugar, flour, water, and olive oil (add yeast, if you want). The easy dough recipe makes tons of flatbread, screaming for Indian-curry chicken, guacamole and eggs, cumin-spiced shrimp with tomatoes and garlic cream and is killer for your Eater’s Shindig.

Hop Chef DC: Beer Appetizers Compete!

The best thing about beer is when you use it to cook dozens of appetizers, all in the fun of bragging rights and cool ish from Saveur magazine. Everything from drunken oysters with bacon, hop-laced lamb sauce and beer-cooked surf and turf sliders we’re on tap at the Atlas in Northeast, DC. Watermelon and Feta Appetizers

2 Baby watermelons, halve
1 Cup Feta cheese, crumble
2 Tbsp. Basil leaves, pick small leaves
¼ Cup Balsamic vinegar
Salt, to taste

1. Slice each baby watermelon in half then use a melon baller to carve out rounds of the watermelon.

Entree Play: Hello there, Authentic Indian Curry

Oooh the mound of spices and heat of an authentic Indian dish. It is overwhelming like a 6-foot tall second-grader who terrifies you BUT when you give them a nervous smile and a “hello, there” they become your new best friend.

After becoming friendly with the mountains of hazel-hued cumin, bright-yellow turmeric, roasted-mustard seeds and clay-red chili powder, it was  time for a spicy experiment. Thanks to my cooking guide, a simple Indian recipe with a world of spices, along with garlic, ginger and chicken was crafted.

Why, Hello, There! Here’s what happens to me (a hungry meat-eater) when no meat is thawed.  I fling open the fridge, throw every vegetable imaginable on the counter, thank my lucky stars and stripes for red lentils and kiss the fragrant curry powder bottle for bringing the flavors together.
