Kings of Pasty Interview with director, Chris Hegedus of Pennebaker Hegedus Films
Brandon: What made you document a story about pastry chefs and the M.O.F?
Chris Hegedus: D.A. Pennebaker and I were looking for a new story to tell. And a friend of mine who attended the French Pastry School mentioned Jacquy Pfeiffer and Sebastian Canonne preparing for the M.O.F so we met with them. Jacquy’s passion and obsession in competing for the M.O.F was inspiring. And his coach and friend, Sebestain, reminded me of the movie The War Room. We felt there was a story there.
Brandon: What are your favorite appetizers?
Chris Hegedus: I’m a foodie so I love appetizers that are creative and unique taste treats before dinner or several appetizers can be a meal itself. I usually go for anything with mushrooms but fish, crab, and artichokes are delicious. And you can’t go wrong with homemade guacamole and chips.
Brandon: Have any advice for budding filmmakers?
Chris Hegedus: Find an idea that you feel passionate about, pick up a camera and tape.

The film’s been getting a lot of attention. I remember watching the trailer on Apple.com and wondering how these chefs made those great sculptures. (I never knew you could even do that with chocolate!) They really make some immensely beautiful works of art. Great work with the interview! You’re so lucky to have gotten the chance to do that. Can’t wait to watch the other parts!
The Kings of Pastry directors are amazingly warm and welcoming. They have done so many documentaries – The War Room, Jane… I’m still in awe.
The chocolate fashion show is delicious! They should have it for fashion week. The Kings of Pastry looks amazing, where is it playing?
